BRISBANE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) is planning to restart its 51,000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant at Niigata on 20 April, a company source said on Friday.

The plant was shut on schedule on 4 April this year, he said.

The shutdown was partly due to the shortage of electricity in Niigata, the source added.

Meanwhile, the company is planning another 40-day scheduled turnaround at the Niigata unit from 10 October to 20 November this year, according to the source.

MMA is used to produce polymethyl MMA (PMMA) polymer, cast sheets and acrylic resins for coatings and emulsions.
