SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Beihai Petrochemical is running its aromatics plant at Beihai in Guangxi province at full operating rates after starting up the unit in January, a company source said on Wednesday.

The unit, which can produce 30,000 tonnes/year of benzene, is one of the auxiliary units of the company’s 5m tonne/year refinery, according to the source.

The facility’s toluene and xylene output is used for oil blending, the source said, without disclosing the specific output of the two products.

The volume of output from the plant is unlikely to have much impact on the southern China market as its capacity is small, a local market player said.
