MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Petroecuador’s Esmeraldas refinery, the largest refinery in the country, went offline yesterday due to an electrical fault, the state-run oil company said on Friday.
The 110,000 bbl/day plant will be back online on 15 April, the company said.
The 20-minute outage in the electricity feed that powers the refinery caused all operating units to shut down, a source familiar with the refinery said.
The restart process began immediately after power was restored.
The fuel supply for the domestic market will not be affected, as sufficient inventories are available to guarantee supply, the company said.
Ecuador has struggled with rising fuel and petrochemical imports due to lack of domestic refining capacity.
