HOUSTON (ICIS)--CF Industries's Woodward nitrogen complex in Oklahoma was out of service as a result of a power outage caused by tornadoes, the fertilizer company said on Monday.
At least five people died when a tornado blasted through in the western Oklahoma town on Sunday. Some 89 homes and 13 businesses were destroyed, according to multiple news accounts.
No direct damage was reported at the CF facility.
Electric crews were working to restore power to the facility and the surrounding area.
"Our immediate concern is the safety and welfare of our employees and neighbours who were affected by the tornadoes and the devastation they caused," said Tony Will, CF Industries senior vice president, manufacturing and distribution.
"Fortunately none of our employees were injured, although several did experience damage to their homes. Our thoughts are with those in the community who were impacted by the storms."
The tornado was one of several that ripped across the US midwest region this weekend.
