NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (ICIS)--Enterprise Products is considering a 550-mile US Gulf pipeline to connect the regional ethylene plants and incoming ethane supplies, a company official said on Monday.

The “Ethane Header System” has merit and deserves consideration to support the ethylene market on the Gulf coast and market growth over the next five years, said Enterprise vice president of fundamentals and supply appraisal Tony Chovanec.

He spoke at the Gas Processors Association (GPA) annual meeting.

The 550-mile pipeline system would make use of 75% existing pipeline.

The pipeline would connect ethylene crackers and ethane from the Marcellus and Utica shale basins in the northeast to the Texas ATEX Express Pipeline and the Front Range pipeline, which would bring natural gas liquids (NGLs) from the Rockies, said Chovanec.
