Japan Mar ABS domestic shipments dip 1% from Feb; exports up 15%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resins in March slipped by 1% month on month to 21,859 tonnes, official industry figures showed on Wednesday.

The volume also represents a 1% decline from the same period a year earlier, according to the Nihon ABS jushi kogyokai (Japan ABS resin industry association).

Japan’s exports of ABS resins grew 15% month on month to 14,559 tonnes in March, but fell 9% year on year, official data showed.

A total of 8,657 tonnes of total domestic shipments of ABS resins for the month went to automotive applications, down 3% from February, but were 27% higher year on year, based on the statistics.

Domestic shipments of ABS resins for electric appliances fell 6% to 2,180 tonnes in March from February, and declined 23% from March 2010, according to the association.
