HOUSTON (ICIS)--Eastman Chemical has completed an expansion of its 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) plant at Longview, Texas, the US-based producer said on Wednesday.

Eastman said that with the expansion and recently completed debottlenecks, the plant’s 2-EH capacity had been increased by about 37,000 tonnes/year.

A spokeswoman told ICIS that the company would not disclose the plant’s 2-EH capacity following the expansion, or the cost of the expansion.

In a separate statement, Heidi Barnes, business director of oxo-alcohols and plasticizers at Eastman, said that the Longview expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to the 2-EH market.

In addition, the expansion would support growth in Eastman’s business in non-phthalate plasticizers, Barnes said.

Eastman first announced the expansion in September 2010.
