SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Samsung Cheil Industries, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Samsung Group, plans to complete the construction of a new 80,000 tonne/year polycarbonate (PC) unit at Yeosu in August this year, a company source said on Thursday.

Net capital investment for the new PC plant will hit won (W) 160bn ($140m) by August, the source said on the sidelines of the four-day Chinaplas exhibition in Shanghai which closes on 21 April.

Completion of the new plant will take Samsung Cheil Industries’ total PC capacity at Yeosu to 160,000 tonne/year, the source said.

The company has been operating a acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and engineering plastics compounding plant in Tianjin, China, since 2010, and it has no plans to expand its compounding facility in China, he added.
