Russia Q1 monomer, polymer output weakened - Rosstat

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russia's overall production of monomers and polymers was largely down in the first quarter, statistical agency Rosstat said on Friday.

In January-March 2012, Russia's total production of ethylene was down by 8% year on year at 597,000 tonnes, while propylene production was 15% down year on year at 311,100 tonnes, it said.

Meanwhile, styrene output was 1% up year on year at 137,300 tonnes, while phenol output was 4% up year on year at 72,100 tonnes, the agency said.

The country's total output of polyethylene (PE) was down by 14% year on year at 383,000 tonnes, while polypropylene (PP) production was 12.5% down year on year at 157,200 tonnes, it said.

However, polystyrene (PS) output was 0.5% up year on year at 85,500 tonnes and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) output was 16% up year on year at 185,900 tonnes, the agency said.
