China’s Yanzhou Coal restarts Yulin methanol plant; run rate 75%

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yanzhou Coal Mining resumed production at its 600,000 tonne/year methanol plant at Yulin in Shaanxi province on 22 April after conducting equipment maintenance at the unit, a company official said on Monday.

The methanol unit was shut on 16 April, the source said.

The plant, which is currently running at 75% of capacity, is expected to ramp up to full production on 24 April, the source said.

A resulting increase in domestic methanol supply in China is likely to slow down the price uptrend of the chemical, a market player said.

Spot methanol prices in Shaanxi were at yuan (CNY) 2,500-2,520/tonne ($397-400/tonne) EXW (ex-works) in the week ended 20 April, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Yanzhou Coal Mining is a Shanghai-listed company owned by Yankuang Group.
