MOSCOW (ICIS)--Acron's overall production rose in the first quarter of 2012 because of healthy seasonal demand, notably in March, the Russian fertilizer holding company said on Monday.

In the January-March period, Acron produced 688,500 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizers, an increase of 8% year on year, while its mixed fertilizers output was up by 7% to 735,600 tonnes.

The 8% increase in nitrogen fertilizer production came as a remarkable result against a background of decreasing overall nitrogen fertilizer output volumes in Russia in the first quarter, said Acron CEO Alexander Popov.

The group's ammonia output reached 475,100 tonnes, up by 3% year on year, it said.

The Acron holding company controls OAO Acron, based in the Novgorod region in northern Russia, and OAO Dorogobuzh in the Smolensk region of central Russia, as well as China's Acron-Hunzhi, based in Shandong province.
