MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the state-owned oil company, lifted a critical alert order that limited natural gas supply to the western region of the country, the company said on Monday.
Pemex Gas and Basic Petrochemicals, a unit of Pemex, said fuel supply had been restored to the region.
The temporary critical alert was enacted to ensure safe operation of the pipeline, as demand pushed operation of the conduit to its limit, Pemex said.
Pemex has suffered frequent vandalism, as fuel thieves routinely tap into Mexico's network of pipelines to steal oil and gas for sale in the black market, causing spills and explosions.
Pemex Gas and Basic Petrochemicals is a Pemex subsidiary that processes, transports and markets natural gas, liquid hydrocarbons and basic petrochemicals.
