MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Ecopetrol, Colombia's state oil company, halted pumping on a propane pipeline after the line was ruptured, the company said on Tuesday.

The line, which was struck by a backhoe belonging to a third party, was carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), Ecopetrol said.

The company activated its contingency plan, evacuating anyone near the incident and suspending pumping on the conduit.

Ecopetrol owns and operates a propane pipeline connecting Barrancabermeja to the capital city of Bogota, according to Ecopetrol’s website.

Barrancabermeja is the principal refining centre, operating the country’s largest refinery.
