HOUSTON (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) April contracts have increased by 2 cents/lb ($44/tonne, €33/tonne), following a higher US orthoxylene (OX) March contract, industry sources said on Tuesday.

The April contract for molten-grade PA was assessed by ICIS at 87-94 cents/lb, while flake-grade was assessed at 88-95 cents/lb.

PA contracts typically reflect the previous month’s OX price, which settled at 71 cents/lb in March, up by 2 cents/lb from February.

PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers, and Stepan.
