SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical (Group) plans to expand their annual caustic soda capacity to 1,200,000 dry metric tonne (dmt) by October 2012, said a company source on Thursday.

The company is running a 750,000 dmt/year plant in Xinjiang province at full rates but the capacity of the plant will be reduced by 150,000 dmt/year on 26 May, said the source.

The company has a 300,000 dmt/year caustic soda plant  which it plans to start up in August 2012 and a separate 300,000 dmt/year caustic soda plant that is scheduled to be started up in October 2012, said the source.

Both plants are located in Xinjiang and trial runs will be conducted at the first 300,000 dmt/year plant in June, according to the source.

The expanded capacity of 1,200,000 dmt/ year will make Zhongtai Chemical (Group) the producer with the largest caustic soda capacity in Asia.
