Eastman starts up Texas City non-phthalate plasticiser facility

LONDON (ICIS)--Eastman Chemical has completed the retrofit and start-up of its non-phthalate plasticiser production facility at
The plant was previously owned by Sterling Chemicals, which Eastman acquired for $100m (€76m) in August last year.
Eastman said the facility will increase its overall capacity of Eastman 168 non-phthalate plasticiser by around 60%, with further capacity hikes possible as demand grows.
“This additional capacity will allow us to serve the growing demand for non-phthalate plasticisers such as Eastman 168 around the globe,” said oxo and plasticisers business director Heidi Barnes.
Specific capacity figures for the plant were not disclosed.
Non-phthalate plasticisers are used in a variety of products, including toys, childcare items, food contact materials and medical devices, Eastman said.
