HOUSTON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell has started discussions with potential partners about a condo cracker, the company’s chief executive said on Monday.
CEO Jim Gallogly said he does not expect many of the companies that have announced plans for a cracker to go at it alone.
“They’re raising their hand to say we’re available,” he said. “A number of them have contacted us."
He said the company’s Channelview complex in Texas could be a potential site for the cracker, but added it is too soon to speculate on possible sites because discussions have just started.
Last year, Gallogly brought up the concept of a condo cracker, in which LyondellBasell would develop such a plant with another company.
During an energy conference earlier this year, Gallogly said companies “may begin then to partner up to what we call condo crackers, something our company has indicated we would be willing to participate in, where multiple partners build a single large facility”.
