US Q1 ethylene production falls 3.3% year on year – AFPM

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in the first quarter fell by 3.3% to 13.00bn lb (5.9m tonnes) from 13.44bn lb a year earlier, data from the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) showed on Tuesday.

Ethylene output in January-March was also down by 3.1% compared with 13.41bn lb in the fourth quarter of 2011, the group said.

US ethylene inventories in the first quarter stood at 1.10bn lb, up by 30.1% year on year, but down by 27.2% from 1.51bn lb in the fourth quarter of 2011.

AFPM's quarterly data is based on voluntary reports.
