US ethylene output in March falls 8% year on year - consultant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in March totalled 4.247bn lb (1.93m tonnes), an 8% drop from 4.623bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Wednesday.

Ethylene output in March rose 3.5% by volume from 4.103bn lb in February, but when measured on a daily rate production fell by 3.2%, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

US crackers operated at 86.5% of capacity in March. The figure is down from 89.3% in February and 94.3 % in March 2011, the report showed.
