China’s Zhongjia Huachen Energy’s runs EPS unit at 50% capacity

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhongjia Huachen Energy is running its 120,000 tonne/year expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant in Zhejiang province at 50% of capacity after starting it up at the end of April, a company source said on Thursday.

The source did not say when the plant was started up but according to him, the company had carried out test runs on the unit for several days, starting from 2 April.

“The plant was shut down till the end of April after the test run, and now it is running normally at 50% of operating rate, and some products have been sold on the market,” the source said.

The construction of the plant was completed at the end of 2011 but the producer had postponed the start-up of the unit to avoid the traditional low season of EPS market in China during the first quarter, the source added.
