SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company (ZRCC) on Thursday restarted its No 1 aromatics plant at Ningbo in Zhejiang province following a scheduled turnaround, according to a company source.

The unit was taken offline on 19 February this year for maintenance.

The aromatics unit can produce 220,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 250,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 680,000 tonnes/year of isomer-grade xylene (IX).

The company’s assorted 530,000 tonnes/year paraxylene (PX) unit at the same site will also be restarted by 3 May following a turnaround, with on-spec output from the unit to be available for sale from around 10 May, according to the source.

“The operating rate of the PX unit is expected to achieve 100% after the maintenance. It used to be 80% because of technical issues,” the source said.

“There are no spot cargoes to be sold in the market as toluene and isomer xylenes belonging to [the] No 1 aromatics unit will all used to produce PX,” a source from Sinopec East China’s sales office added.
