MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Weifang Yixing Chemical Company’s new 100,000 tonne/year 2-butyl acetate unit at Changyi in Shandong province is expected to start up in the second half of 2013, a source at the China-based firm said on Friday.

Once completed, the new unit will boost the firm’s overall 2-butyl acetate capacity in China to 150,000 tonnes/year.

The company currently operates a 50,000 tonne/year 2-butyl acetate plant at Weifang, also in Shandong province.

2-butyl acetate, which is derived from butane, is a solvent used in paint and coating, as well as an octane booster in gasoline blending.
