US EGAF spot barges prices on US Gulf rise on tightening supply

MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Spot antifreeze-grade ethylene glycol (EGAF) on barges out of the US Gulf were assessed on Friday higher at 46-48 cents/lb ($1,014-1,058/tonne, €771-804/tonne) from 43-46 cents/lb last week on tighter supplies.Product priced below 46 cents/lb was not available any longer and prices had moved up as supply tightened.
The shutdown of MEGlobal’s plants in Canada tightened supply, market players said.
MEGlobal shut its three monoethylene glycol (MEG) in Alberta in Canada for six weeks of maintenance in the second quarter. The work began at the end of April.
MEGlobal has two plants at Prentiss, with nameplate capacities of 320,000 tonnes/year and 278,000 tonnes/year; and a third plant at Fort Saskatchewan with a 380,000 tonne/year capacity, according to the company’s website.
MEGlobal plans to replace the reactors at the Fort Saskatchewan plant, which will slightly increase its glycol production.
Major EG producers in the US include LyondellBasell, Huntsman, MEGlobal, Indorama, SABIC and Shell.
