Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical to shut MIBK plant on 13 June

MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical plans to shut its 20,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant at Mizushima for annual maintenance on 13 June, a company official said on Tuesday.
The plant will be shut until 16 July, the official said.
During the scheduled maintenance, the company will not offer cargoes for export, the official added.
“We will focus on supplying MIBK to our domestic customers [during the maintenance shutdown],” said the official.
Mitsubishi Chemical is one of three MIBK producers in Japan.
The other producers are Mitsui Chemicals, which has a nameplate capacity of 30,000 tonnes/year, and KH Neochem, which can produce 15,000 tonnes of MIBK annually.
MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is mainly used as a solvent for industrial paints and in the production of rubber chemicals.
