SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Brenntag’s net profit in the first quarter grew 18.6% year on year to €79.1m ($103m), backed by a 12.1% increase in sales, the German chemical distributor said on Wednesday.

Sales for the first three months of the year stood at €2.38bn from €2.13bn in the previous corresponding period, the company said in a statement.

Its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were up 8.7% year on year to €171.6m in the March quarter of 2012.

“All regions reported earnings growth, which especially in the Europe and the Asia Pacific segment was partly due to the contribution of acquisitions concluded in 2011,” Brenntag CEO Steven Holland said in the statement.

Its first-quarter 2012 sales in Asia Pacific surged 68.3% year on year to €144.1m, with operating EBITDA rising 8.2% to €10.6m.

The company’s sales in Europe for the period grew 5.3% to €1.15bn, with operating EBITDA up 1.5% to €79.6m, Brenntag said.
