TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s Denki Kagaku Kogyo (Denka) recorded a 21% decrease in its full-year net profit to yen (Y) 11.3bn from Y14.4bn a year earlier partly owing to losses incurred as a aresult of last years earthquake and tsunami, the company said on Wednesday.
Operating profit for the full year to 31 March 2012 fell 16% year on year to Y20.7bn from Y24.6bn, while net sales was up 1.9% to Y364.7bn from Y357.9bn, the chemical producer said in a statement.
In the organic chemicals segment, full-year operating profit declined 26% year on year to Y3.7bn, while net sales increased 4.6% to Y163.6bn.
This was partly because the sales of styrene monomer (SM) rose from the previous year, while the sales of clear resins including acrylonitrile budtadiene styrene (ABS) resin declined, Denka said.
