NEW YORK (ICIS)--BASF FINA Petrochemicals plans to add a new furnace to its Port Arthur, Texas, olefins facility by 2014, a BASF spokesperson said on Wednesday.

BASF FINA Petrochemicals, a joint venture between Germany-based BASF and France-based Total, operates one flexible steam cracker that consists of nine furnaces that can produce up to 2.0bn lb/year (907,000 tonnes/year) of ethylene and 1.8bn lb/year of propylene, said the spokesperson.

BASF would not disclose whether the new furnace would use natural gas liquids (NGL) or naphtha as a feedstock. Potential capacity of the new furnace was also not disclosed.
