Japan’s Tokuyama Corp runs caustic soda plant at 60-70%

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Tokuyama Corp is currently running its 490,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda plant at Yamaguchi prefecture at reduced capacity following the shutdown of its vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant at the site, a company source said on Thursday.

The caustic soda unit is currently operating at around 60-70%, the source said.

Prior to the shutdown of the VCM plant, the caustic soda plant was running at 95%, the source added.

Chlorine, a co-product of caustic soda, goes into the production of VCM.
