HOUSTON (ICIS)--US paraffin wax (p-wax) imports in March more than doubled from February, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.
US p-wax imports rose to 24,796 tonnes in March from 10,733 tonnes in February.
Imports rose in March mainly because of increased product brought in from China.
March imports decreased, however, from 38,864 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
China at 13,328 tonnes was the major source of US p-wax imports, followed by Canada at 2,940 tonnes and Japan at 2,233 tonnes.
Other sources included Brazil, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and India.
The US exported 3,645 tonnes of p-wax in March, up from 2,184 tonnes in February.
Mexico at 2,160 tonnes was the major destination for US p-wax, followed by Canada at 1,022 tonnes and China at 116 tonnes.
Other destinations included Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, Chile, Germany and Taiwan.
