HOUSTON (ICIS)--US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) exports jumped 41% in March year on year from increased shipments to countries in Europe, the Middle East and China, according to data released on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
VAM exports totalled 56,341 tonnes in March, compared with 40,076 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
Shipments to four countries - Belgium, China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates - accounted for almost 90% of the increase.
Belgium remained the top VAM destination, taking 12,421 tonnes, a 50% increase over 8,300 tonnes received in the same month last year.
Major US VAM sellers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
