HOUSTON (ICIS)--US March phenol exports increased year-on-year and month-on-month, data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) showed on Thursday.

US March phenol exports were 67,755 tonnes, up from 45,306 tonnes for the same month a year ago, an increase of 50%.

Spot phenol in March was mostly done between 63-70 cents/lb ($1,389-1,543/tonne, €1,069-1,188/tonne) on an FOB (free on board) basis, as assessed by ICIS.

During the month, demand for US material from China slipped because of cheaper domestic material there. However, demand from India and Latin America improved.

Month on month, US phenol exports increased by 32% from 51,426 tonnes in February 2012.

Major US phenol producers include Dow Chemical, Georgia Gulf, Haverhill Chemical, Honeywell, INEOS Phenol and Shell Chemical.
