CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--Ethanol production in Brazil’s centre-south region in April fell by 40% year on year, the nation's sugarcane association said on Thursday.

April production was 539.6m litres, down from 905.7m litres in 2011, Unica said.

April production of anhydrous ethanol decreased by 78%, from 336.1m of litres in 2011 to 75m of litres in 2012, Unica said.

April hydrous ethanol production also fell, from 569.6m of litres in 2011 to 464.6m of litres in 2012, down 18%, it said.

However, sales of ethanol increased by 14%, reaching 717.89m litres in 15 April through 1 May 2012.
