China’s Zhejiang Huachen Energy to start up aromatics unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhejiang Huachen Energy will bring on stream its aromatics plant at Pinghu, Zhejiang province, in mid-June and the plant will use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a feedstock, a company source said on Friday.

The source did not give the exact start-up date for the plant but said it will able to produce 30,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 60,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 60,000 tonnes/year of xylene, the source added.

The aromatics products will be sold largely to east and south China, and the producer plans to sell the toluene output to the downstream toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) industry and the toluene and xylene to the solvent market, according to the source.

The start-up will not have a significant impact on the market as its capacity is considered small by industry standards, according to a trader.  

Zhejiang Huachen Energy is based at Pinghu in Zhejiang province.
