Russia's Togliattikauchuk restarts production facilities after fire

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russia's Togliattikauchuk has restarted most of its production facilities after a fire in April caused shutdowns, the synthetic rubber manufacturer said on Friday.

The production facilities were shut down after the blaze on 23 April damaged an electricity supply unit.

Togliattikauchuk’s butadiene and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) units were restarted on May 1, while its co-polymer styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) unit resumed production on May 2, the company said.

It added that its isoprene and isoprene rubber units restarted on May 8-9.

The company’s isobutylene, isobutene and butyl rubber facilities were shut down for regular maintenance before the fire, and these units are due to restart from May 15, it said.

Togliattikauchuk, based in Samara region, Central Russia and controlled by Russia's petchem holding SIBUR, exports about two thirds of synthetic rubber it produces.
