MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangsu Sopo Chemical restarted its methanol, acetic acid and ethyl acetate (etac) plants at Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province over the weekend following a planned maintenance, a source close to the company said on Monday.

The company will be ramping up operating rates at the plants over the next few days, the source added.

The plants – a 500,000 tonne/year methanol unit, a 1.2m tonne/year acetic acid plant and a 500,000 tonne/year etac facility – were shut on 30 April to undergo overhaul and catalyst change.

Other etac producers in China include Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development, Shanghai Wujing Chemical, Shandong Jinyimeng Group and Rizhao Jiahong Biological Technology.
