SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shanghai Petrochemical restarted its 380,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Shanghai on 12 May, ahead of a planned restart on 16 May, a company source said on Monday.

The plant was shutdown on 2 May for regular maintenance, the source added.

The plant also produces 30,000 tonnes/year of diethylene glycol (DEG), a co-product of MEG.

The DEG output fell by less than 1,000 tonnes during the shutdown period.

The shutdown had a limited impact on China’s DEG spot market because of a high inventory for the material in the region, an industry source said.
