SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Karamay Petrochemical, a subsidiary of PetroChina, has shut its 700,000 tonne/year Group I base oil plant at Karamay in Xinjiang for 45 days of maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The producer shut the plant on 11 May and will be ceasing supply during the maintenance, the source added.

However, the supply halt is expected to have little impact on the Chinese Group I base oil market, which is well-supplied by imported BS150 products, major traders in China said.

Imported BS150 products were trading at yuan (CNY) 12,500/tonne (€1,978/tonne) in April, CNY1,000/tonne lower than those produced by Karamay Petrochemical, the traders added.

Karamay Petrochemical produces mainly BS150 base oils.
