HOUSTON (ICIS)--INEOS sent 900 contract workers home early on Tuesday after four suspicious-looking packages were found at its Chocolate Bayou complex in Texas, according to a local news media report.
The company's 350 full-time employees remained at the site, the report from Houston's NBC-affiliated TV station KPRC said.
Federal and local officials investigated for three hours and deemed the site to be safe, KPRC said, adding that police had initially thought one of the packages was a suspected pipe bomb.
INEOS has two steam crackers in Chocolate Bayou with a combined 1.8m tonnes/year of ethylene capacity. One of the units is off line for a planned turnaround.
An INEOS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
