HOUSTON (ICIS)--Spot prices for US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) slipped during the past week, dropping by $25/tonne (€20/tonne) on a decline in feedstock ethylene costs, sources said on Tuesday.
VAM FOB (free on board) export prices fell to $975-1075/tonne from $1,000-1,100 tonne, sources said.
Major VAM feedstock US ethylene spot prices plummeted during the week, with sources calling the move a major correction after record highs in April. Spot ethylene ranged at 53.50-61.00 cents/lb, compared with 63.00-63.25 cents/lb a week earlier.
Spot prices for another VAM feedstock, US acetic acid, remained stable during the week.
Major US VAM sellers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
