SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Hebei Yingdu Gasification plans to shut its 500,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Xingtai, Hebei province, for maintenance around 10 June, following a period of unstable operations, sources close to the company said on Thursday.

The company may take the acetic acid plant off line for a week after fulfilling its export commitments, sources said.

The plant is currently operating at around 70% of capacity, they added. It was operating at a lower rate of around 60% in late April. It had an outage on 18 April and resumed operations on 21-22 April.

Hebei Yingdu Gasification’s plant shutdown is unlikely to have any major impact on the acetic acid market because the producer has sufficient inventorie, market sources said.

Major acetic acid producers in Asia include US-based Celanese, UK’s BP, China’s Jiangsu Sopo, Shanghai Wujing, Yankuang Cathay Coal Chemicals, Henan ShunDa Chemical and Shandong Hualu Hengsheng, Taiwan’s Chang Chun Petrochemicals, Saudi Arabia’s International Acetyl Company (IAC) and Iran's Fanavaran Petrochemical Co.
