SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jilantai Salt Chemical shut its 400,000 tonnes/year calcium carbide-based polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant in Inner Mongolia for 10 days of maintenance on 18 May, a company source said on Friday.

The producer plans to restart the plant on 27 May, the source said, adding that the company was running the plant at 90% of capacity before the shutdown.

The company offered PVC products at yuan (CNY) 6,550/tonne ($1,036/tonne) EXW (ex-works) by acceptance within the province on 17 May, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Spot prices of PVC in north China market were assessed at CNY6,550-6,600/tonne EXW on 18 May, data from Chemease showed.

Persistently weak domestic demand depressed PVC markets and sales were sluggish, a market player said.

Jilantai Salt Chemical, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Salt Industry Corporation (CNSIC), produces mainly calcium carbide, PVC and caustic soda.
