HOUSTON (ICIS)--US Albemarle will manufacture its GreenCrest polymeric flame retardant at its Orangeburg plant in South Carolina, the company said on Monday.
The company plans to use GreenCrest to eventually replace hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) for use in extruded polystyrene (XPS) and expandable (EPS) polystyrene (PS) applications.
Albemarle said it plans to commercialise the technology in 2014.
The Orangeburg site serves all three of the company's global business units.
