China April PE imports fall on weak demand, eurozone concerns

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s polyethylene (PE) imports fell sharply in April as weak domestic demand and concerns over the ongoing eurozone sovereign debt crisis capped buying interest, industry sources said on Tuesday.

The country imported a total of 521,400 tonnes of PE in April, down by 16.73% from March, according to data from the China customs.

Of the April import quantity, 261,000 tonnes were high density PE (HDPE), 10,870 tonnes were low density PE (LDPE) and 151,700 tonnes consisted of linear LDPE (LLDPE) - down by 14.82%, 10.34% and 23.57%, respectively, from the previous month -  official data showed.
