HOUSTON (ICIS)--WR Grace plans to produce fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and related products for the petroleum refining industry at Qingdao in China's Shandong province, the US-based specialty chemicals and catalysts firm said on Tuesday.

WR Grace said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Qingdao's bureau of commerce to invest in a plant in the city.

It did not disclose capacity or financial details or say when construction is expected to begin.

"This is an important step towards expanding Grace's FCC catalyst manufacturing capabilities to serve our customers in China and other countries in the fast-growing Asia Pacific region," said Shawn Abrams, president of Grace's catalysts technologies business.

Grace operates five plants, three sales offices, and two technical service centres in China. The company's Asia-Pacific headquarters is in Shanghai.
