PP to show gains in pressure sensitive adhesive tapes through 2016

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Polypropylene (PP) products and value-added specialty tapes are expected to show best gains in demand for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes through 2016, according to a market research study that was announced on Tuesday.
Global demand for PSA is projected to increase by 5.6% per year from 2011 through 2016 to 43.5bn square metres, valued at $37bn (€29bn), according to Cleveland-based industry research firm The Freedonia Group.
Carton-sealing tapes made up over two-thirds of the volume of global PSA tape market in 2011.
PSA performance will be driven by the processed food and beverage manufacturing sector, along with a healthy growth expected for the masking tape, electric and electronic and medical tape segments.
The Asia/Pacific region, the largest regional market, will see rapid gains, with healthy growth expected in Central and South America, Eastern Europe and the Africa/Mideast region, according to Freedonia.
