MIAMI, Florida (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) May contracts have been assessed at a rollover from April, following the US orthoxylene (OX) April contract, sources said on Tuesday.
PA contracts typically reflect the previous month’s OX price, which was settled at a rollover from March at 71.00 cents/lb ($1,565/tonne, €1,221/tonne) for April.
The May contract for molten-grade PA was assessed by ICIS at 87.00-94.00 cents/lb, while flake-grade was assessed at 88.00-95.00 cents/lb.
According to a PA buyer, prices are closer to 85.00-92.00 cents/lb for molten grade and 86.00-93.00 cents/lb for flake grade. However, this was unconfirmed.
PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers and Stepan.
