Japan's oriented PP film production falls by 3.7% in April

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of oriented polypropylene (PP) film fell by 3.7% to 19,051 tonnes in April from the previous month, reflecting lower exports, official industry data showed on Wednesday.

This was a 6.9% decline from the same period a year earlier, according to the Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association.

The country’s exports of oriented PP film fell by 15% to 282 tonnes in April this year from March, and rose by 21% from April 2011, according to the association.

Japan’s domestic shipments of oriented PP film increased by 2.5% month on month to 19,968 tonnes in April, and decreased by 13% year on year, based on the data.

Meanwhile, Japan produced a total of 12,630 tonnes of cast PP film in April, a 5.4% decline from the previous month and 14% lower as compared with April 2011, the data showed.

The country’s domestic shipments of cast PP film rose by 1.6% to 13,034 tonnes in April from the previous month, but fell by 15% from April 2011, it showed.

Japan’s exports of cast PP film fell by 37% month on month to 286 tonnes in April, and up 21% year on year, according to the association.

Oriented PP film and cast PP film are primarily used for food packaging.
