SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Hebei Yingdu Gasification plans to shut its 500,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Xingtai in Hebei province on 2 June instead of 10 June for maintenance following a period of unstable operations in April, a company source said on Thursday.

“The facility is ready for the turnaround so we will shut it on 2 June instead of 10 June,” the source said.

The plant may be shut for ten days of maintenance after the company fulfil its export commitments rather than for one week as previously planned, he added, without giving a reason for the change in duration.

The plant is operating at around 70% of capacity now, the source added.

The shutdown is unlikely to have any major impact on the acetic acid market because the producer has sufficient inventories, market sources added.

Major acetic acid producers in Asia include US-based Celanese; UK’s BP; China’s Jiangsu Sopo, Shanghai Wujing, Yankuang Cathay Coal Chemicals, Henan ShunDa Chemical and Shandong Hualu Hengsheng; Taiwan’s Chang Chun Petrochemicals; Saudi Arabia’s International Acetyl Co (IAC) and Iran's Fanavaran Petrochemical Co.
