SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaoxing Yuandong Petrochemicals’ new 1.4m tonne/year No 4 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit is producing product to the specified standard, a company source said on Thursday.
The announcement came one week after the company brought one of the two 700,000 tonne/year reactors at the site in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, online earlier in the week.
“The start-up process is smooth, which proved that the technology is mature,” the source said.
Yuandong adopted technology for its No 4 PTA unit from the government-run China Textile Academy, he added.
The source did not know the exact operating rate of the newly-started reactor. The company plans to start up its second reactor once the first stabilises.
Yuandong is considering shutting down its 600,000 tonne/year No 2 and 600,000 tonne/year No 3 PTA units at the same site in June, after the full start-up of the No 4 PTA line, market sources said.
