SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Tenglong Aromatics PX (Xiamen) Co plans to start test runs at its new paraxylene (PX) project at Zhangzhou in Fujian province by the end of July, a company source said on Friday.

Its $2bn (€1.6bn) PX project can produce 800,000 tonnes/year of PX, as well as 240,000 tonnes/year of benzene and toluene and xylene, according to the source.

The plant’s toluene and xylene output will be for captive use to feed into company’s toluene disproportionation (TDP) unit, the source said.

The source did not disclose the exact start-up date of the plant.

The PX project was initially planned to be built at Xiamen but was forced to relocate to Zhangzhou because of health hazard and pollution concerns, an industry source said.

The company is a subsidiary of Xianglu Tenglong Group  - a major producer of purified terephthalic acid (PTA)  in Fujian province.
